Healthy Toppings for Baked Potatoes

Published: Mar 11, 2024 Modified: Mar 10, 2024 by Melina Malone

Who doesn't love a good old-fashioned baked potato? This home-cooked meal staple is one that we all know and love. But although loading on heaps of butter and sour cream might taste good, it's far from the healthiest option. Bring nutrition to the table with these healthy toppings that transform baked potatoes from bland to mouth-watering in minutes.

Chives

A lesser-known member of the onion family, chives are a simple and tasty addition to baked potatoes. Chives have a mild onion-esque flavor that will pack a punch with each bite! Plus, they're rich in essential vitamins and minerals.

Broccoli

Broccoli is quickly becoming the trendiest vegetable, and it's easy to see why. From pizza to pasta - and now potatoes, too!- broccoli florets are a nutritious game-changer for every dish. Toss some roasted broccoli on your baked potatoes for the perfect crunch.

Spinach and Feta

The dream-team food combination of spinach and feta will send your baked potatoes to the next level. Creamy, flavorful, and full of nutrients. Ditch the feta and keep the spinach if you want a dairy-free alternative! You can't go wrong with leafy greens.

At first glance, you might not think that chili pepper flakes belong under the "healthy" category. This antioxidant-filled topping can boost metabolism, prevent disease, and even help fight stress. Plus, chili pepper flakes provide that pinch of spice your baked potatoes have been waiting for!

Greek Yogurt

Are you missing sour cream's smooth and creamy texture in your baked potato dishes? Consider Greek yogurt as a healthy alternative. It's creamy, tangy, and great for your immune system.

Cottage Cheese

If you like your potatoes cheesy, this one is for you. Cottage cheese is beloved for its low-calorie count and high-nutrient content. Plus, it tastes good, too! Substitute butter or sour cream with cottage cheese for a flavorful treat.
